The BOV Tazza l-Kbira 2024 gets underway this Sunday 24th March 2024 with 6 heats featuring 61 Premier Class Trotters. This year’s edition marks the 90th year since the 24th June 1934 when the first edition of the Tazza l-Kbira, then called the ‘Championship Trotting Challenge Cup’ was held.
Last year’s winner Crack Money, the national record holder of the fastest time on the 2640m distance and 2022 winner Charming Soldier, holder of the best timing in the BOV Tazza l-Kbira final are among the participating horses that include 14 new horses and another 6 that have very recently started racing in Malta.
The first 4 placed horses in each heat, raced over the traditional 2640m distance, will proceed to the semi-finals scheduled for Sunday 7th April 2024, with the top 6 in each semi-final proceeding to the final of the most prestigious race in the Maltese trotting calendar being held on Sunday 21st April.
Keeping up with its name as the most prestigious race of the year, organisers Malta Equidrome have once again raised the prize pot with the winner receiving €5,000, the highest prize in all Malta Equidrome races with another €4200 being distributed between those that finish from 2nd to 5th place.
This 90th Anniversary of the BOV Tazza l-Kbira coincides with sponsor Bank of Valletta’s 50 year anniversary since first opening their doors on Thursday 21st March 1974 and also 10 years since the Bank supported this prestigious race for the first time.
