BOV TAZZA L-KBIRA 2023

In front of an enthusiastic crowd of around 2000 spectators, Crack Money engraved his name on the coveted BOV Tazza l-Kbira. The 11-year old French gelding owned by Stephen Ciangura took the lead early in the race and kept a steady pace all the way showing off his superiority passing the finishing post by a clear two lengths from Lucky Guy Boko clocking an average time of 1’13”7. For driver Michael Ellul this was his first victory in this final and he dedicated the win to the owner’s father Alfred Ciangura who passed away recently and for many years was a part of the Malta Racing Club’s administration apart from being an avid horse racing enthusiast himself.

The presentation to the winners was done by Hon. Clifton Grima, the Minister responsible for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation together with Bank of Valletta’s CEO Mr Kenneth Farrugia in the presence of the Malta Racing Club’s Chairman Mr Anthony Mifsud, Malta Equidrome’s CEO Dr Matthew Brincat and EquestriMalta’s Chairman Mr John Huber amongst other distinguished guests.

Due to the morning’s rainfall a contingency plan had to be set in motion with the racing programme delayed for two hours and instead of the planned displays of Harley Davidson Motorcycles and Mercedes Benz cars, for the parade a Mercedes UniMog was used together with Land Rovers thanks to Ivan Farrugia from Benz Garage and A & A Garage Land Rover Enthusiasts.

Crack Money was escorted to the winners’ circle by riders from Equestrian Dreams thanks to Corinne Gauci.
